Custom website development company
Custom website development means building your site from code instead of customizing a template or platform. AJ Creationz uses Next.js and React to build fast, secure sites and web applications when a business needs something WordPress or Shopify cannot do well, such as bespoke calculators, member areas, complex integrations or very strict performance targets.
Custom is not automatically better. It costs more to build and needs a developer for changes, so we only recommend it when the requirements justify it. If a template can do the job, we will tell you, and point you to WordPress or Shopify instead.

Get a quote →When custom development is worth it
A custom build is worth considering when:
- You need features that plugins or apps cannot provide cleanly
- The site has to connect to your own systems or third-party APIs
- Speed and interaction quality are central to your brand
- You are building a product, portal or tool, not just a brochure
Why we use Next.js
Next.js, built on React, lets pages be generated ahead of time and served quickly from a global network, which helps both users and search. It also gives us full control over metadata, structured data and URLs, which matters for SEO. This very website is built with it.
Content editing without a developer
A custom front end can still be edited by your team. We connect it to a headless CMS or to WordPress as a content source, so marketing staff can change copy and publish posts without touching code.
Custom, WordPress or Shopify: how to decide
Choose by the job the site has to do, not by what sounds most advanced. As a rule of thumb:
- Mostly pages and a blog, edited often by your team: WordPress is usually the faster and cheaper route.
- Selling products with standard checkout: Shopify handles payments, tax and inventory so you do not have to.
- Custom logic, your own data, logins or a product: a custom build is the better fit, because plugins and apps start to fight each other.
- Not sure: our website development overview compares the options, and we will recommend the simplest one that works.
What you receive at handover
A custom site should never be a black box. At launch you get the items below, agreed in the quote.
- The full source code in a repository you own, with a README explaining how to run, change and deploy it
- Hosting and domain set up in your accounts, with access details
- Search basics built in: unique titles and descriptions, a sitemap, canonical URLs, structured data and 301 redirects if you are replacing an old site (see our website migration checklist)
- Analytics and conversion tracking installed and tested, with consent handled for your audience
- A short walkthrough for the people who will edit content
Questions to ask any developer
Whoever you hire, get written answers to these first: Who owns the code and accounts? What happens if the developer is unavailable? How are updates and security patches handled, and what does that cost? How will the site be measured for speed on a mid-range phone? Vague answers are a warning sign.
Security, hosting and maintenance
We handle deployment, environment configuration, dependency updates and security patching, and document how the site is built so you are never locked in to us.

Frequently asked questions
How much does custom website development cost?
It depends entirely on scope. Because requirements vary so much, we provide a fixed quote after a scoping call rather than a generic price.
Is a custom site better for SEO?
It can be faster and give finer control, but a well-built WordPress site ranks perfectly well. Content and links still matter most.
Can my team edit a custom site?
Yes, if we connect it to a content management system. We agree this at the start.
Will I own the code?
Yes. You receive the source code and documentation on full payment.
How long does a custom build take?
It depends on scope. A marketing site with a few templates is far quicker than a portal with logins and integrations, so we give a timeline in the written quote after the scoping call.
What does a custom site cost to maintain?
Hosting is usually modest. The main ongoing cost is developer time for updates, security patches and new features, which we agree as a monthly plan or hourly rate before launch.
